KNMI chooses iO as strategic and digital partner again

iO, the leading blended agency, has won the tender to become a strategic and digital partner to the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI).

The KNMI and iO are renewing their collaboration: the blended agency will guide the institute in its digital transformation in the coming years.

Since 2022, iO has been working closely with the KNMI and the agency has already completed several important projects for the institute.

Proven track record

An example of this is the launch of an innovative data portal with climate scenarios with which the KNMI maps the consequences of climate change and extreme weather. Thanks to these scenarios, policymakers can develop strategies to prepare our country for future weather and keep the Netherlands safe and liveable.

In addition, KNMI, in collaboration with iO, provides indispensable weather data via secure websites to sectors including aviation, regional security and water boards, which are crucial for their daily decision-making and safety.

Jaap Willem Hoogenhout, Business Development Director at iO, comments:

"We are delighted that the KNMI has once again chosen us as their strategic partner for the coming years. Together, we will use our technical expertise and creative solutions to prepare the Netherlands for future climatic challenges, and more. We look forward to making the digital journey together with the KNMI and jointly developing innovative solutions that make a difference."

Digitalisation with social impact

iO focuses on optimising user experiences and the further development and integration of the KNMI digital platforms. The roadmap includes the management, optimisation and further development of knmi.nl, daggegevens.knmi.nl, the climate portal and the various customer portals.

Jan Dekker, Strategic Business Manager Weather and Aviation Meteorology at KNMI:

"Our collaboration with iO has proven to be very productive since 2022. Their expertise in digital transformation is invaluable to us. They succeed in translating complex, often scientific, data into user-friendly interfaces. This will allow us to protect the Netherlands more efficiently against weather-related risks."

However, the collaboration between KNMI and iO goes beyond just technological innovation. By making weather data and climate scenarios more accessible, the partnership contributes to improved decision-making in the field of climate adaptation, increased vigilance and preparedness for extreme weather events, and a more efficient use of meteorological data in various sectors, from agriculture to insurance.
